An officer with the Vadakara District Education Office has been slapped with a fine of Rs 12,500 by the Right to Information Commission for a 50-day delay in providing information.
Arif Ahmed, Public Officer of Vadakara District Education Office, delayed the information despite the order of the State Right to Information Commission.
Vinod Kumar of Sri Mangalath House at Mandarathur of Puthuppanam had approached the Commission after the information sought by him was denied in both the application and the appeal by officer Arif Ahmed.
State Right to Information Commissioner Dr A A Hakeem has fined the officer for showing complacency despite being asked by the Commission to provide information.
The officer had concealed the copies of the documents in the matter of giving permanent appointment to a teacher under K E A Chapter XIV A, Rule 51 A in a school in the district. Even after the Commission's order, a delay of 50 days had occurred in providing the information, prompting the Commission to impose a fine of Rs 12,500 at a rate of Rs 250 for each day of delay.
The DEO must ensure that Arif Ahmed has paid the fine by July 25 and inform the Commission by July 30. Otherwise Arif will have to face attachment proceedings.
