Inaugurating a one-day workshop of Public Information Officers in the auditorium of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Monday, State Information Commissioner SS Guleria provided detailed information about the Right to Information Act and its provisions. He said before providing the third party with information under the Right to Information Act, it is also necessary to take consent from the person concerned in public interest and whose personal information has been sought.
He said that as per the order of the Supreme Court, all departments will have to ensure that the budget and the information related to the department, government welfare schemes, beneficiaries’ information is made available on the department's website. He also spoke about updating the department's websites from time to time. He said the Commission is also keeping an eye on the departmental websites. He said the act is important to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government.
