A tragedy at the Old
Rajender Nagar IAS coaching centre was almost waiting to happen as queries on
infrastructure and safety of such places was met with silence.
Kishore Kushwaha, an activist, had filed a complaint on the public grievance monitoring system portal of Delhi govt in June, mentioning the problem of libraries in basements and asked for action against MCD officials.
Kushwaha had complained about a coaching institute running a classroom without an NOC in the basement. In his complaint he had alerted about the dangerous practice.
"There is a danger and possibility of a major accident, so I had informed the concerned organisation in this regard about the corruption in the MCD," he said in his complaint. Kushwaha had sent two reminders on July 15 and 22.
An RTI query was filed by Ankit Singh Chauhan, a UPSC aspirant seeking information regarding SOPs for having libraries in the basement.
Chauhan sent the query after the Mukherjee Nagar fire on March 8. The replies said: “No information is available.”
A govt official said: “The officer in charge of the MCD zone was suspended last month as there was already another complaint pending against him.”
