Mohali Dy mayor files RTI over closure of key road

Times of India: Chandigarh: Thursday, 04 April 2024.
Mohali municipal corporation deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has filed an RTI seeking information from Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) regarding the closure of a key road near the bus stand of Phase VI.
In his petition, Bedi has highlighted that the double-lane road was part of Gmada master plan and was closed when the bus stand was constructed. “So why is it not being opened even when the bus stand has been decommissioned,” he questioned. Bedi said that if the Gmada does not act immediately, he will be compelled to knock the doors of court for relief.
Commenting on the issue, Bedi said, “The area looks like a forest now, and a major accident can occur anytime. What is the Gmada doing to prevent such a situation. Moreover, as the portion has not been repaired, the road has collapsed at several points.”
Bedi added, ''This is a very big problem but Gmada officers are not paying any attention to it. Gmada will only wake up after a major accident occurs on the road.'' Bedi also claimed that the officials do not understand their responsibility.
He has also appealed to the deputy commissioner that as the Road Safety Chairman, the DC should issue instructions to Gmada to repair and open the road immediately so that long traffic jams can be eliminated and accidents can be avoided.
