In a step towards enhancing
transparency and efficiency, the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench has launched
its Online Right to Information (RTI) portal, marking a significant achievement
as the first in Nagaland to implement this initiative.
The portal was officially inaugurated on February 29 by Justice Devashis Baruah, a Judge at the Gauhati High Court and the ICT In-charge of the Kohima Bench. The event, attended by Justice Susmita Phukan Khaund and officials of the High Court Registry, witnessed Baruah symbolically filing the first online, paperless e-RTI application at Kohima Bench through the dedicated web portal.
Section 6 (1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005 mandates that information seekers have a statutory right to submit applications through electronic means. Until now, RTI applications could only be filed through the physical mode. The introduction of the online RTI portal aims to enhance convenience for accessing information about the Gauhati High Court and its outlying Benches, informed a press release by Ajongba Imchen, Registrar of Gauhati HC Kohima Bench.
The web portal allows Indian citizens to file their RTI applications and First Appeals online, making payments for fees and copying charges through an online payment gateway, with options for Internet Banking or UPI transactions.
To access the Online RTI portal, citizens can simply click on the dedicated "RTI" tab available on the official website of the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench.
The portal features a user-friendly interface and operates in an end-to-end paperless mode. The online RTI facility is set to be extended to all District Courts of Nagaland in the near future, as stated in the release.
