Kengeri police have arrested six individuals, including a history-sheeter and a farmer, in connection with the Feb 29 attack on a 31-year-old self-claimed RTI activist named Nagaraj K.
The arrested are Manish Mogan Poojari (28), Shashikumar Reddy V (20), Satish (44), Venugopal A alias Kumaraswamy (51), Krishna (30), all residents of Basaveshwaranagar, and Govindaraju KG, a farmer from Kaniminike in Kumbalgodu. Krishna has a previous criminal record at Chandra Layout police station. According to cops, Nagaraj had filed an RTI application seeking documents related to a property owned by Govindaraju near Kumbalgodu. This property is now marked for acquisition by the National Highways Authority of India. Nagaraj had complained against Govindaraju, alleging that the property was registered illegally. The two had been involved in a dispute for nearly a year.
Enraged, Govindaraju sought Krishna and his associates’ help to attack Nagaraj, police said. Nagaraj was attacked while returning home after a physiotherapy session in Moodalapalya around 1pm on Feb 29. It was allegedly carried out by Manish and Reddy near Kengeri rail underpass.
Nagaraj has told police the pillion rider attacked him with a machete. Nagaraj managed to escape and seek medical assistance at a hospital. A case of attempted murder has been registered.
