The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), New Delhi, returned Rs 20 India Postal Order (IPO) enclosed with two-page information under the Right To Information (RTI) Act, 2005, to an applicant from Ramgarh town, asking him to send Rs 10 bankers cheque/ bank draft/ postal order to the PMO as per the provision of the RTI Act.
The Act mandates payment of Rs 10, whereas the applicant had sent an IPO of Rs 20.
Pankaj Mahto of Chatti Bazaar had sent an application to central public information officer (CPIO) in the PMO, Pravesh Kumar, seeking information under the RTI Act, 2005, and enclosed Rs 20 postal order with the application.
In the letter no. RTI/1466/2024, dated March 6, 2024, Pravesh Kumar asked Pankaj Mahto to send Rs 10 only.
Applicant Pankaj Mahto refused to disclose the content of the information provided to him. “Instead of holding back the information sought by me, the PMO sent me the inormation alongwith the IPO. I will send Rs 10 to the CPIO soon,” he added. TNN
