The State Information Commissioner imposed a fine of Rs 85 lakh on public information officers GeoTv News

Chhattisgarh State Information Commission Commissioner Dhanvendra Jaiswal relates negligence in providing timely information to applicants and improper implementation of the Right to Information Act, imposing a total penalty of more than Rs 85 lakh 37 lakh in 3 lakh 836 cases in the last two years. A year and a half was imposed on media employees. The State Information Commissioner’s Court imposed this fine in an order issued from March 2021 to September this year.
These public information officers include joint collector, Tehsildar, district panchayat chief executive, block education officer, minerals officer, women and child development officer, medical college public information officer, gram panchayat secretaries and others. Likewise, the Committee also recommends disciplinary action against the first appellate officers.
Arrange online hearing at Chhattisgarh State Information Commission
The Naya Raipur-based Chhattisgarh State Information Commission has made online arrangements for hearing the second appeals and complaints under the Right to Information Act. Appellants can apply online and offline. The hearing is conducted from the NIC video conferencing room located at the Collector Office in all the districts. As a result, applicants do not need to come to Raipur. The State Information Authority also began mobile hearing in June 2023. Through this, the appellant and the information officer join the second appeal hearing by calling on their mobile phones.
