The state governor’s office in an RTI reply on Thursday has revealed that deputy CM Ajit Pawar had not submitted any letter on the numerical strength of his group or an affidavit to the governor’s office before taking oath.
An activist sought the information to know the strength of Ajit Pawar’s supporters in the state legislature.
Activist Janak Keshariya had sought to find out if any letter of support had been furnished by Ajit Pawar. Keshariya had also sought details of any criteria or notification which has to be submitted to the governor before the oath-taking ceremony, to which the RTI reply states that procedure regarding appointment of ministers and their oath is done as per Article 164 of the Constitution.
The public information officer, Vikram Nikam, had replied that the governor does not have to take the approval of the Central government before the oath-ceremony. Keshariya said, “After listening to a lot of media debate, I had sought the information under RTI. However, there is no provision for a letter of strength or affidavit to become a minister.”
