Manipur minister calls for judicious use of RTI.

Manipur water resources and relief & disaster management minister Awangbow Newmai on Thursday called for judicious use of the RTI Act as he inaugurated Right to Information Week Celebration 2023 in Imphal.
The minister inaugurated the week-long celebration hosted by Manipur Information Commission at a function held at the auditorium of state DIPR office in Imphal.
The Manipur Information Commission hosted the week-long celebration with the objective to popularize the RTI Act, 2005 under the sponsorship of the department of personnel & training of the Union ministry of personnel, public grievances & pensions. Addressing the event, Awangbow Newmai said that the Right to Information Act is an important Act in democratic countries like India as it will help in bringing transparency and accountability for good governance.
“So, we need to control misuse of RTI Act for personal gains,” he said. He said that the RTI Act is very important as every individual has the right to know the different activities and functioning of the government. This Act is made for more public participation and to strengthen the government in state and nation building.
Sharing his knowledge on RTI, additional chief secretary MH Khan said that a society has to be transparent. Development of any society will be fruitful and better if there is transparency as far as possible. As a part of the celebration, a state level workshop was also held with advocate Dr Ch. Narendra Singh and Rinku Khumukcha, editor of Imphal Times as resource persons.
