State information commissioner Sanjay N Dhavalikar on Thursday said citizens can file a first appeal under the Right to Information Act if they are not satisfied with the information provided by a public information officer (PIO).
They can also file an appeal if they are not provided the information under the RTI Act within the stipulated period of 30 days, Dhavalikar said.
Dhavalikar was speaking at the RTI Day celebration organised by Goa State Information Commission in collaboration with Dempo Charities Trust’s SS Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, at Bambolim.
“While the RTI Act promotes transparency, it also recognises that certain information needs to be protected, on such grounds as national security or personal privacy,” Dhavalikar said. State Chief Information Commissioner Vishwas R Satarkar said the RTI Act, 2005, promotes accountability and transparency in the working of every public authority.
