Information sourced through Right to Information (RTI) Act pointed out police has 83 FIRs and 565 complaints pending for more than three years. Maximum pendency is in south division with 29 FIRs and 477 complaints. The UT said under the RTI Act, there are 146 appeals pending before the chief administrator for over three years. As many 64 appeals are pending for more than three years before special secretary, finance-cum-chief administrator, and nine cases for more than three years before the VAT tribunal.
According to the MC estate branch, there are 29 cases pending before the chief administrator court. As per MC tax branch, there are 97 cases pending before various authorities. “Many departments have not responded to RTIs. Many cases are lying pending. As a result, delivering justice to people suffers. All departments may be directed to make a list of pending cases for more than three years and display them on their website. All pending matters should be enlisted on e-office portal of UT so that complainants can know the status of their complaints. Pendency of cases be cleared and brought to one year in six months,” said RK Garg, a city-based RTI activist in a letter to the UT administrator.
