Penalty not paid, info officers to lose out on ‘no dues’

The Haryana government has taken stringent steps to recover the penalty imposed by the state information commission (SIC) under RTI Act on public information officers who delayed giving information on applications filed by civilians. All authorities have been directed to recover the penalty amount from SPIOs.
In an order, Haryana chief secretary Sanjeev Kaushal has stated that controlling authorities will not issue last pay certificate/no dues certificate to such state public information officers (SPIOs) till they deposit the amount of outstanding penalty and send a compliance report to the registrar, state information commission.
The order stated the government had taken serious view of this lapse on part of controlling authorities and decided that the amount of penalty be recovered from SPIOs as soon as possible. If these orders are not taken seriously, strict action will be taken against the controlling authority under Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016, read the order.
A monitoring committee, for checking the recovery of penalty imposed by the state information commission, was constituted earlier. tnn
