RTI filed on appointment on non-locals in Garo Hills

The Meghalayan: Shillong: Thursday, 22 June 2023.
In a statement, the RTI applicant Greneth M Sangma has questioned the appointment of five non-Garo personnel into the Govt ITI Tura.
An RTI activists and vice-president of ACHIK, has filed an online RTI in the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Meghalaya on the issue of appointments and employee structure in the department.
In a statement, the RTI applicant Greneth M Sangma has questioned the appointment of five non-Garo personnel into the Govt ITI Tura.
He said in these appointments, a principle of Meghalaya Job Reservation Policy, 1972 has been neglected as many non-Garo instructors were chosen despite hundreds of Garo eligible candidates applying for the post.
He said the ACHIK society is also particularly concerned after learning that the same posts were still lying vacant in different parts in Khasi Hills.
“What could be the reason that vacant posts in Garo Hills are filled up by non-Garos by taking away the livelihood of Garos who were working in the same department for about 4-7 years on contractual basis,” he questioned.
The statement also said that these vacant posts were earlier held by Garo instructors, both permanent and contractual. Yet, the replacement is filled up by non-Garo candidates, the statement added.
It further said that ACHIK will be gathering information on these matters as well as other issues such as the efficacy and expenditures on the implementation of crores of rupees in the department funded by the Asian Development Bank.
