Of 67,252 loans disbursed under the Prime Minister Street Vendors’ Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi) scheme in Rajasthan, 7,898 (11.74%) had turned into non-performing assets (NPAs), making the state 13th in the country in terms of NPA generation, as per an RTI reply received from the union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA).
The RTI application in this regard was filed by Venkatesh Nayak of Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI). The PMSVANidhi scheme was launched by the government of India on June 1, 2020, for the benefit of millions of street vendors whose livelihoods were impacted by the nationwide COVID-19 pandemic lockdown imposed towards the end of March 2020.
PMSVANidhi aims to provide collateral-free loans at subsidised rates of interest to eligible street vendors in three tranches Rs 10,000 in the first year and Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000 in the second and third year respectively.
According to the data supplied by MoHUA’s CPIO, a total of 48.70 lakh applications for loans were received from across the country and a total of 32.26 lakh loans were disbursed (including first and second loans). In other words, 66.25% of the total loan applications have been successfully disbursed.
Data supplied by the ministry under the RTI Act stated 512,236 PMSVANidhi loans had become NPAs. This amounts to 15.88% of the loans disbursed till the date of the RTI application. UP (1,85,918) reported the largest number of NPAs followed by MP (95,807), Telangana (55,763), Maharashtra (36,130) and Karnataka (28,516).
UP topped the list of states and UTs with the highest number of disbursals - 871,902, including 1st and 2nd loans between financial year 2020-21 to 2022-23.
