Did you know every public office has to appoint a grievance redress officer to ensure that citizens’ work is completed within a stipulated time period? This according to the Gujarat (Right of Citizens to Public Services) Act, 2013.
Recently, when Khadia police station inspector P D Solanki failed to respond to a citizen’s query under RTI as to what provisions he has made at the police station according to the Gujarat RCPS Act, the state chief information commissioner Amrut Patel fined him Rs 1,000 for avoiding answering the query. According to the information commission’s order, in early June Solanki admitted he had “no information” on the provisions of the Act and how to implement them. The query was filed by Nishit Singapurwala.
