Greater
Kashmir: Jammu: Friday, 06 March 2020.
At
least 75 percent faculty positions are vacant at Central University, Jammu
(CU-J).
The
revelation have come to fore in resposen to an RTI by activist, Raman Sharma
who had sought information about the reason for the vacant posts.
The
response from the University said of 22 sanctioned posts of Professors, 17 were
vacant.
“The
data provided by the University also shows that 32 of 44 sanctioned positions
of Associate Professors remain unfilled,” reads the response.
The
varsity also has shortfall of 10 posts of Assistant Professors of the
sanctioned 91 posts,” said Sharma.
He
said the “debility” of the University was not only limited to vacant posts, but
even around 30 percent posts of non-teaching staff were vacant.
According
to the RTI the sanctioned strength of non-teaching staff at the University is
119. Of these total posts, 35 are vacant.
In
response to an RTI query related to steps being taken by the University to fill
the vacant posts, the varsity’s Public Information Officer (PIO) has said they
advertised the vacant teaching positions more than seven times from 2015 to
2018 18.
“Due
to non-availability of suitable and eligible candidates, the posts remained
vacant,” he said.
To
another question, the PIO said recruitment was an ongoing process and did not
give any deadline for filling the posts.
The
University was established in 2009 and it started functioning in 2011.
