RTI activists here are a harried lot
these days as postal orders of Rs 10 and Rs 20 have been out of stock for the
past about two weeks. Further, those who require any important document under
the RTI Act, too, are unable to get it.
Sandeep Maluja, an RTI activist, informed
that postal orders were out of stock, which had barred activists from getting
any information from the state or Central Government. “I have visited the local
post office a number of times, but they have postal orders of Rs 50 or above.
The RTI application fee is Rs 10, thus not possible to pay five times than the
original fee. The postal authorities should make some arrangement at the
earliest,” said Maluja.
Meanwhile, Gurbinder Singh, Postmaster,
Malout, said, “We have sent the demand a number of times, but yet to get postal
orders of Rs 10 and Rs 20. Some customers have to return empty-handed, but what
can we do now.” — TNS
