Nearly 28 organisations to hold protest march against fuel hike on Sept 10

Daijiworld.com: Mangaluru: Saturday, September 08, 2018.
As many as 28 organisations will join together for a massive protest march from Hampanakatta Circle to DC office on Monday, September 10 against the fuel hike, informed MLC Ivan D Souza.
Addressing media here on Friday September 7, Ivan D Souza said, "There has been continuous hike in fuel price and now it has reached up to Rs 81.63 per litre for petrol. In spite of less price of crude oil in international market, the price for fuel has skyrocketed. In 2014, the crude oil price was US dollar 108.26 per barrel and petrol price was Rs 65 per litre. Now in 2018, crude oil price is US 65 dollar per barrel and the petrol price is Rs 81.63 per litre,”
“Even the diesel price has increased up to Rs 74 per litre, compared to Rs 48 in the year 2014. There is no control over the price of the fuel. We had demanded to bring fuel under GST, but the Central government has refused to do so. The gas price was Rs 400 in 2014 and now it has doubled in 2018 to Rs 813 per cylinder. As per the RTI information, petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 34 and Rs 27 respectively to some foreign countries,” Ivan informed.
"Even the common citizen has been suffering due to the fuel hike. Hence, 28 organisations have joined together for a massive protest march from Hampanakatta to DC office on September 10. We are not doing this for any political gain,” he said.
"Prior to the protest march on September 10, we will organise awareness meet on fuel hike on September 7 at Urwa Market, Urwa store, Urwa rickshaw stand, Kudroli Jodupalli, Bunder police station and Kandak between 6pm to 9pm. On September 8, the awareness meet will be held at Kudroli Circle, KMC Attavar, Mahakali Padpu, Valencia and Kankanady ground,” concluded Ivan D Souza.
President of Forum for Justice, Dayanand Kotian, Dilraj Alva, Donald D Souza and others were present.
