Adopting zero
tolerance policy towards traffic violators on the roads of the national
Capital, the Delhi Police has launched a concerted drive especially against those driving with tinted
glasses. Figures available with Delhi
Traffic Police have revealed that they have collected around Rs 60
crore from the traffic violators.
Majority of
these challans were issued to the vehicle owners driving with tinted glasses.
“Supreme Court has prohibited the use of tinted glassed in vehicles and anybody
found violating this order is subject to be prosecuted” a, senior traffic
police official said.
Replying to a
RTI query, Delhi Traffic Police said that till June 30th, a total amount of Rs
56,46,96,100 (including compounded and court challans) have been collected by them by issuing 35,80,036 challans in
the same period, whereas the total
amount collected through fines last year was Rs 98,56,71,300. The money
collected as fine goes to the State treasury.
The Data
shared by the Delhi Traffic Police to the query made by the RTI activist
Zeeshan Haider reveales that the many car users are still riding with 'tinted glasses' even after the Supreme
Court's strict ban on the use of this glasses. As per the data, the Delhi
Traffic police in 2018 (up to June 30th) have issued a total number of 30,035
challans for installing 'tinted glass”. The data also shows that tinted glass
violations have increased to nearly 70 per cent this year in just six month as
compared to the whole last year. In 2017, a total of 52,975 challans were
issued.
“The traffic
unit of Delhi police is working hard to catch these violators who not only put
themselves in the danger but also make the road dangerous for the other fellow
commuters. The traffic team is active in the entire city to curb the road
violation and one can see from the challans and punishments given to the
violators as per the law,” said Taj Hassan, Special Commissioner of Police
(CP), Traffic.
According to
the data, the court challans are also speedily increasing as compared to the
last year.” Red Light violations, using mobile phone while driving, speeding of the vehicles and carrying
passengers in goods vehicles are the violations that comes under the ambit
of prosecution. A total of 31958
challans were issued for jumping Red Lights, 1093 fined for using mobile phone
while driving, a total of 31136 have been fined for over speeding of the
vehicle then the restricted actual speed and around 214 good vehicles for
carrying passengers.
“We have
started awareness campaigns as well as the Delhi Traffic Police earlier have
launched awareness program- “Chakravyu' to curb the violations as the
passengers start from their house. The program has been active now and many
traffic police personnel have deployed outside the gate of the society to keep
an eye and aware the people. Mostly, motorists are the biggest road violators
as compared to the all other vehicles. So, we are taking strict actions and
steps to aware the people but the commuters should also obey the rules and take
care of their own and others life while driving,” Hassan
said.
Further, a
large number of challans were issued for jumping Red light signals ( 1, 26,167)
, driver and pillion riding without helmets (94,9,249) and triple riding
(10,8,611), Drunken Driving (18,753), without light/head and tail(1,60,689),
parking in bus stand (52356), one way violations (20,2,517) and not using seat
belts (3,58,059).
