The Haryana
Government has decided to appoint three State Information Commissioners and
invited applications by September 13.
Stating this
here on Sunday, an official spokesman said the government has constituted a
body under the RTI Act, 2005, known as the State Information Commission, to
exercise the powers conferred on and to perform the functions assigned to it
under the Act. The Commission shall have a Chief Information Commissioner and
up to 10 Information Commissioners. The powers and functions of the Chief
Information Commissioner and the State Information Commissioners are as per the
Chapter V of the Act.
He said the
Act provides that the State Information Commissioner should be a person of
eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and
technology, social service, management, journalism, mass-media or administration
and governance.
He said
further, the State Information Commissioners should not be Members of
Parliament or Members of the Legislature of any state or union territory, as
the case may be or hold any other office of profit or connected with any political
party or carrying on any business, or pursuing any profession. The cessation
termination of holding of office of profit, pursuing any profession or carrying
any business is a condition precedent to the appointment of a person as State
Information Commissioner.
