Delhi High
Court to hear the Delhi University case related to the disclosure of the result
of the batch of 1978, the same year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi claims to
have graduated. The hearing will be done today after Delhi University (DU)
opposed a plea of Right To Information (RTI) activists seeking details of all
the students who graduated in Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1978 batch.
RTI activists
Anjali Bhardwaj, Amrita Johri and Nikhil Dey had asked for permission to step
in the petition filed by the Delhi University. Information Commissioner Sridhar
Acharyulu had also directed the University to allow the inspection of the
student’s records of 1978 pass out batch which was later challenged by DU
calling it a third party personal information.
The Central
Information Commission had rejected the Central Public Information Officer of
the University’s argument that it was a third party personal information,
saying it finds “neither merit nor legality” in it. However, the Delhi High
Court had put the operation of the CIC order on hold in January 2017.
The country’s
premium varsity also claimed that the RTI plea is merely an attempt to gain
cheap publicity as the batch of 1978 involves PM Narendra Modi’s name.
According to the DU record, PM Modi graduated from the Delhi University in BA
in 1978 batch.
