The ABVP held
a press conference on Tuesday and accused the NSUI-led Panjab University Campus
Students’ Council (PUCSC) of presenting fake bills to siphon off money.
Holding a
press conference, ABVP leader Harmanjot Gill said despite discrepancies in the
bills, Prof Emanuel Nahar, Dean, Students Welfare, gave the PUCSC a clean chit.
He alleged
that ‘Vimarsh’ was organised from March 12 to March 14. “How is it possible
that a bill dated March 22 worth Rs24,633 for lunch could be submitted for the
event, which was held from March 12 to March 14?” he asked.
He said no
list of awardees had been submitted with the DSW, both for ‘Vimarsh’ and
‘Jhankaar’ and the PUCSC bought trophies and mugs worth over Rs2 lakh.
The ABVP has
procured information on bills under the RTI Act. Two leaders of the ABVP had
sat on a hunger strike against the alleged embezzlement from March 25 to March
28, and one of the leaders had to be hospitalised.
The PU
authorities had then formed a committee to look into the allegations, but gave
a clean chit to the PUCSC on April 26. Vani Sood, former secretary of the
PUCSC, said the ABVP’s press conference was a political gimmick.
