Daily Pioneer: Dehradun: Tuesday, June 19, 2018.
The family
members of the late advocate and Right To Information (RTI) activist Rajesh
Suri are happy with the district court having directed the special
investigation team (SIT) to submit a progress report in the case pertaining to
his death in suspicious circumstances. The said report was submitted in the
court on Monday, said Rita Suri, the sister of the Rajesh Suri.
The death of
Rajesh Suri in 2014 still remains unsolved after about four years. According to
his relatives, Suri had fought several cases related to land scams in the State
which included instances in which high profile people were also allegedly
involved. Suri died while he was returning from the High Court in Nainital to
Dehradun with the death later being declared a death by natural cause.
Keeping the
sensitivity of the case in consideration, Rita Suri had demanded a fair
investigation for which an SIT was formed. The siblings of Rajesh Suri alleged
that the SIT had failed to contact the family about the current status of the
investigation which is why, Rita Suri again requested the court to grant the
latest information about the case. The District Court of Dehradun recently
asked the SIT team to submit a progress report which was submitted in the court
on Monday, said Rita Suri.
Talking to
The Pioneer, she said, “After hearing my plea seeking an update on the case
from the SIT and considering the questionable behaviour of the gunner who was
assigned for the security of my brother, the doctor who declared the death by
natural cause and viscera report which highlighted the presence of poison apart
from flaws that were committed by the assigned officials intentionally or
unintentionally as revealed by information I secured under the RTI Act, the
District Court had sought a progress report from the SIT which was submitted on
Monday.”
She further
informed about anomalies regarding a land on Balbir Road in Dehradun which was
exposed by her late brother in 2003. In this case orders were also issued by
the officials concerned to the departments to stop construction in the area and
to keep an eye on the land which belongs to the Government.
Despite the
orders, construction was started in the particular area. After the matter was
kept in front of ADG (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar, an SIT was formed and this
team has written to the Dalanwala police circle officer to look into the matter
and submit a report within a week.
