Chief
information commissioner Martuza Ahmad has urged the media personals to come
forward to create mass awareness about the Right to Know Act-2009.
He also asked
the concerned officials, who are responsible to provide information to people,
to study and practice the act to reduce corruption and ensure transparency in
the society.
He said that
proper use of this act would ensure transparency and accountability of the
activities of different government and non-government organisations.
The chief
information commissioner came up with the remarks while addressing a view
exchanging meeting on Right to Information Act-2009 with the officials of
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, divisional information office and the
media personals at Sylhet Betar in the city’s Mirer Maydan on Tuesday
afternoon.
‘The
government has formulated the act to resist irregularities and corruptions in
the society. The act must be applied properly to ensure its benefit,’ Martuza
added.
Bangladesh
Betar Sylhet regional director Fakhrul Alam chaired the programme.
Regional
information office deputy director Julia Jasmine Mili, Bangladesh Television
district correspondent Aziz Ahmad Selim, Sylhet Press Club president Tapos Das
Purkayastha, Sylhet Press Club Foundation president Al Azad, Bangladesh Sangbad
Sangstha Sylhet bureau chief Maksud Ahmad Maksud, Electronic Media Journalists’
Association district general secretary Debashish Debu, Sylhet Online Press Club
president Muhith Chowdhury and senior journalist AFM Sayeed, addressed the
programme, among others.
