Frustrated
over the delay in implementation of fee regulation rules, parents have decided
to step up their offensive. They will be filing an application under Right to
Information (RTI) Act on March 27 to seek details of audited annual accounts of
schools. With no solution in sight almost ayear after the Gujarat Self-Financed
School (Regulation of Fees) Act 2017 came into existence, parents gathered on
Sunday to discuss the future course of action.
The meeting
had representation for more than 10 parents associations. Amit Panchal,
convener of Vaali Swaraj Mandal, said, “M any schools collect exorbitant fees
from parents and paying the same to lawyers to fight the case in the SC. The
parents’ association will file an RTI to get the details of the audited annual
accounts of such schools. The RTI will be filed at the DEO on March 27.” “The
matter regarding fee regulation is in Supreme Court and the provisional fee is
yet to be decided. Also, the current academic year is ending soon,” said
Panchal. He added.
“State
education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said that schools could collect
provisional fees, and they are doing just that. Because of this statement,
besides pressurising the parents, the school managements are also threatening
parents to either bar students from appearing for exams or withhold their
results or even hand over the school leaving certificate if they do not pay the
fees.” The parents’ associations have also decided to meet and thank
authorities of schools which are following government’s instruction and
collecting fee as per approved slabs.
