CCMC chief directs police complaint over missing file

The Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Chairperson Felix Fernandes has directed the chief officer to file a police complaint over file on an illegal construction that has gone missing.
The direction came during the council meeting held to pass the budget for the year 2018-19, wherein Rs 54.97 crore estimated budget for the financial year 2018-19 was approved and passed.
As soon as the meeting commenced, former chairperson Vishwas Sawant brought to the notice of the council that under RTI, he has got a written reply from the Municipal Engineer that the file on the illegal construction was not found.
Following this, Felix asked the Chief Officer Promod Desai to conduct an inventory of all the files in the office and directly lodge a police complaint if any file is missing. “I will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against the guilty,” Felix added.
When Sawant asked the chairperson why the resolution on demolishing the platform built by a mobile company to erect tower illegally at Kakoda junction, was not implemented, Felix assured to take action against the company for eracting the tower without council’s permission.
“The tower has been already sealed by the council and we will send them notice to be present for hearing and if they fail to satisfy us we will take action including demolition,” Felix assured.
Among the other resolutions, the council decided to float tenders for close bids or e-auction for the collection of sopo tax and to fix the minimum amount of 10 percent more of the last year’s minimum amount or the maximum amount which the council can increase as pr the Act.
“The council will collect the sopo directly from the areas which are not marked for the bidder in the market,” Chief Officer Desai informed.
The council approved and passed the resolution to conduct the survey of illegal houses which are existing in the municipal jurisdiction before December 31 in 2012 in order to impose house tax after assessing the structures as per the direction issued by the Director of Municipal Administration vide their circular.
In another decision the council decided to write to the Sawach Bharat authority to section grant to construct toilets/urinals under Open Defecation Free (ODF) scheme.
