A training
cum workshop of public information officers and appellate officers was
organised at the Simhasth Fair office on Monday. State information commissioner
Hiralal Trivedi gave detailed information about various provisions of the Right
to Information (RTI) Act and gave solutions to the questions asked.
Trivedi said
the public information officer should not delay in giving information under the
provisions of the RTI Act. Information which cannot be given under the
provisions of this Act should not be given to them, but the applicant should be
informed in this regard, within a given time frame. Under subsection 8 of
section 7, the reason for not giving information should be mentioned, he added.
He said the
information available in the office should be given as it is. There is no
provision in the Act to compile or collect information. Interrogative
information should not be given. If the document related to the question is
sought, then it can be given, he said.
Trivedi also
pointed out that under the RTI, the prescribed fee or actual charges should be
charged for providing information. To give information in A3 and A4 page sizes,
Rs 2 should be charged per page. For larger sizes, the actual expenditure
should be taken. Rs 10 should be charged with the application, which could be
taken as cash, stamp or postal order. If a soft copy was available, then
information could be given at the rate of Rs 50 per CD. He further said that it
was better for applicants to enclose an envelope with his address written on it
with application, but it was not mandatory. Fees could be deposited in the form
of cash too, but in the corporation or board, fee is not deposited in cash.
In the
training cum workshop, collector Sanket Bhondve, Municipal Corporation
commissioner Vijay Kumar J, zila panchayat CEO Sandeep GR, public information
officer and appellate officer were present. Additional collector Basant Kurre
proposed the vote of thanks.
