The Joint
Commissioner-cum-first appellate authority of the Municipal Corporation has
given instructions to all public information officers (PIO) to follow orders
issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The Council
of RTI Activists president, Rohit Sabharwal, had complained about PIOs of the
civic body not following the format, which they were bound to, while replying
to RTI applications.
He claimed
that orders were issued in 2015, but the Municipal Corporation (MC) PIOs while
replying to the RTI applications failed to specify details as per format of the
DoPT due to which applicants were facing harassment.
According to
the DoPT orders, though there cannot be a standard format for providing
information, the reply, however, should essentially contain the details,
including RTI application number, date and date of its receipt by the public
authority. It must have information about name, designation, official telephone
number and email ID of the CPIO. In case the information requested for is
denied, detailed reasons for doing so along with relevant sections of the RTI
Act should be clearly mentioned in the reply.
