While reports
of corruption in the biggest government run medical facility Maharaja
Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH) are coming to fore every day, the MYH, as well as
MGM Medical College administration, refrained from sharing information to even
Right to Information query about the funds and expenditure in ‘Kayakalp’ scheme
of the hospital.
Moreover, the
college administration has even defied the orders of the director of medical
education department, which had directed the dean to provide information to the
RTI applicant within a month, as it’s been more than eight months since the order
was issued but it is yet to share the information with the applicant.
According to
the applicant, a high court advocate and RTI activist Rahul Pethe, he had asked
the information about the money spent during the ‘Kayakalp’ campaign of the
hospital as large number of people, not only from the city but from across the
globe, had donated a large amount happily for the noble cause.
“My aim was
to know how much money was collected during Kayakalp and how it was spent in
the welfare of patients. I had filed the RTI query on February 3, 2017 for
asking information on 11 points including the dates when Kayakalp was started
by the autonomous body and about the permission taken from the government to
start the Kayakalp,” Pethe said.
He also asked
about the source of the money spent during Kayakalp and the estimated cost
before starting the project. The 11-point query also included the contracts
given to the firms, how much money spent on what all works and the completion
letter of the work from the engineer.
“What the
college administration has provided me was a letter informing about how much
money spent from which fund and nothing else. Later, I had appealed to the
public information officer of Department of Medical Education who ordered to
provide the information in one month but to no avail,” he added.
Pethe said
that various cases of corruption was revealed in the hospital including
corruption in furniture work, oxygen supply line work, linen work, diet scam
and many others.
