The Tribune: Dehradun: Thursday, February 08, 2018.
When it comes
to looking after his guests, no one does it better than Uttarakhand Chief
Minister TS Rawat. Since taking over as the state Chief Minister in March last
year, he has spent a whopping Rs 68.59 lakh on tea and snacks.
The
spending-spree of the Chief Minister came to light in an RTI reply provided by
the Secretariat to the information sought by Hemant Singh through the RTI Act.
In his RTI
application, the Haldwani resident had sought to know the amount of money spent
through the state’s exchequer on providing tea and snacks to guests who have
been visiting the Chief Minister since he took over in March 2017.
The Chief Minister
had taken over the reins of the state on March 18, 2017.
In the reply,
the RTI applicant has been informed that Rs 68.59 lakh was spent on tea and the
payment was made through different vouchers that were put up before them.
In the past,
the Uttarakhand BJP had criticised former Chief Minister TS Rawat for spending
more than 60 lakh in the last three years of his tenure on tea and snacks for
visitors.
However,
Uttarakhand Finance Minister Prakash Pant said that the amount was withdrawn
from different heads.
