Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis has assured two additional Information Commissioners (ICs) will be appointed to the State Chief Information Commission (SCIC) for ensuring quick and time-bound disposal of the Right to Information (RTI) appeals pending across the state. Replying to a question from Sanjay Dutt, Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Congress, the CM stated that from now onwards, procedure for appointment of the ICs will be initiated well in advance. Mr Fadnavis, however, has not given any timeframe for the appointments.
Mr Dutt had raised the question on appointment of ICs during the winter session of the Legislative Council at Nagpur. Responding to the query, the CM assured improvisations for the efficient and quick disposal of pending RTI appeals.
Replying to a query on formation of a Committee headed by Additional Home Secretary to reform RTI, the CM clarified that the Committee would not amend definition of ‘information’ under the RTI Act but would only take a liberal pro-transparency stand favorable to make the Act more citizen-friendly.
