Times of India: Jaipur/Kota: Friday, December 01, 2017.
Seven hundred
twenty infants have died at Jay Kay Lon Hospital in Kota in the past nine
months (January to September). This was revealed by a Right to Information
(RTI) report here on Thursday.
It is the
biggest hospital of Kota division for children. However, the hospital
authorities seem to be not bothered about it.
The report
showed that there were seven infants who died of cerebral malaria, which is the
most severe neurological complication of infection with plasmodium falciparum
malaria.
Health
authorities claimed that since it is the biggest child speciality hospital in
the division, critical infants are brought here. "The figure of infant
deaths in the report is a normal and routine one in Jay Kay Lon Hospital as the
cases at last stage or in severely critical condition from across the region
including from private hospitals nursing homes reach here," said Dr RK Gulati,
superintendent, Jay Kay Lon Hospital.
"It is
nothing concerning or alarming but a normal one," he said.
Meanwhile,
local Congress workers have raised concern over the deaths and demanded to
improve medical and health services in the hospital. They also demanded a probe
into the deaths. "If the probe committee is not formed within next seven
days to improve the conditions and to look into the negligence, they would
intensify the protest to improve the services in hospital," they warned.
However, Kota
is not the only one where deaths of kids have come as a shock. In the entire
state, 32,002 infants had died from October 2016 to October 2017, a report
submitted by the state government before the Rajasthan high court's Jodhpur
bench.
