The Right to
Information (RTI) Law of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has played a vital role
in promoting transparency and accountability in all the Provincial Government
departments and local bodies. Certain independent non-government organizations
and foreign missions had lauded the spirit of the RTI Act introduced by present
KP government as well as the mechanism for its true implementation.
However,
common citizens of the province and their local representatives must be kept
aware of the benefits of the provisions of the RTI.
These views
were expressed by the speakers and other participants of a training session arranged
by KP RTI Commission in collaboration with the district administration at
Committee Room of the Deputy Commissioner, Battagram office. The prime purpose
of the session was to train the Principal Information officers (PIOs) and
elected district councillors about the management of information requests that
are filed by the citizens before the public bodies.
The District
Nazim Battagram, Attaullah Khan Tarand was chief guest of the seminar while DC
Battagram Sardar Asad Haroon presided over the event. Heads of all the district
government departments and members of the District Council as well as officials
of the RTI Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also attended the seminar. The
Participants discussed various aspects of the RTI Law and presented proposals
for making it more effective.
The
participants termed the RTI Law better than similar laws enacted by other
provinces and stressed the need for creating maximum awareness about the law.
They also emphasized the need for making use of the RTI Law to empower people
and improve governance.
