Jawaharlal
Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) has called for filing of mass RTIs on
Thursday to "seek information from the administration on issues of
admission and appointments." They also organised an Independence Day rally
on Tuesday in the campus to "assert the spirit of freedom, democracy and social
dignity."
Claiming that
this was the first time that the merit list was not put up in the public
domain, JNUSU alleged it to be a tactic by the administration to avoid
scrutiny.
Pointing to
the claims made by JNU Teachers' Association (JNUTA) that admissions are only
offered in 53% of the seats and that there is a reduction of admissions in the
reserved category, JNUSU members called students to participate in the RTI
filing drive. JNUSU president Mohit Pandey said that the administration is
"violating all norms as earlier the complete list of selected candidates
of the entrance exams were available, both online and offline". tnn
