In a move towards more transparency, the Meghalaya Public Service Commission
today said it would request the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to include a
marks information page to cater to individual candidates who wish to see their
marks privately.
“The MPSC is
pleased to inform that the NIC is requested to include a ‘marks information’
page which will cater exclusively to any individual candidate who wishes to
view his/her marks privately, obtained in the written examination of the
personal interview," Commission’s Chairman L M Sangma said in a statement
to the media.
The decision
was taken after an urgent meeting which deliberated at length the pros and cons
of uploading the marks, Sangma said.
The
Commission will ‘only’ be responding to queries in its website under the head
‘From the Chairman’s Desk’ to prevent circulation of false information, Sangma
said.
The Chairman
was responding to criticism on the transparency the Commission maintained,
especially with regards to its functioning as a public institution.
“This suggestion was taken into consideration by the commission after seeking legal advice and referring to the RTI Act which has also aggressively pointed out in one of the communications received from candidates who wanted the MPSC to follow the UPSC style of uploading marks in its website,” Sangma stated.
With regards to uploading marks for public viewing, the chairman said candidates who wish to do so have to approach the MPSC with relevant details and willingness to have their marks uploaded for public viewing in the website.
This, Sangma said, was done as the commission ‘respects’ the privacy of the candidate.
