City RTI
activist Avinash Prabhune has been recognized for his query on Aadhaar cards
that led to a correction in the system. Prabhune's name figures in 'RTI
Yashgatha', a book narrating 62 success stories of RTI Act. Prabhune pointed
out a big flaw in Aadhaar card which missed date of birth of applicants. By the
time Prabhune pointed out the error, 21 crore cards were already issued by the
government. After Prabhune's continue follow ups through RTI, finally in
September 2013, Aadhaar cards were issued with date of birth.
TOI ran a
series of articles since December 2012 when the issue was first raised.
Union home
minister Rajnath Singh released 'RTI Yashgatha' at the 11th annual convention
of Central Information Commission (CIC) in Delhi on Tuesday. The book has been
compiled by Pune-based Yashwanatrao Chavan Academy of Developmental
Administration (YASHDA). Apart from 62 success stories, best practices followed
by government offices regarding RTI have been mentioned in the book.
Maharashtra
leads the country with six success stories while Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana
have contributed three such success stories each.
Rajnath Singh
too appreciated the book by stating that our system needs to be
corruption-free, smart, sensitive, transparent and answerable for making all
the programmes of government a success.
