State
Information Commissioner P. Vijay Babu on Thursday faced slogan-shouting by RTI
activists during the RTI Week celebrations at Ravindra Bharati in connection
with the 11th anniversary of the RTI Act.
Soon after
minister Etela Rajender, DGP Anurag Sharma, police commissioner M. Mahender
Reddy, GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and others left the dais, the RTI
activists sitting in the audience raised slogans against Mr Vijay Babu and
demanded that he be sacked. They said they were being questioned by Mr Babu
while filing appeals which, they claimed, was against Section 6(2) of the Act.
Mr Babu told
this newspaper that he did not act against rules while dealing with appeals. “I
have imposed penalties on many government organisations. Whenever I doubt
misuse of the Act, I raised some questions as per the Act. A group of such RTI
activists raised slogans against me at the meeting,” he said.
