As many as 93
rapes are reported in the state every month, one fifth of which occur in
Gurgaon district alone.
This was revealed through in RTI filed before
the Punjab and Haryana High Court by a local activist Capt Pawan Kumar Anchal.
According to the information, 655 rape cases
were registered in the state from January to July. Of these, maximum were
registered in the National Capital Region districts of Gurgaon and Faridabad.
As many as 136 cases were under filed under
the Indian Penal Code in Gurgaon followed by Faridabad which reported 72 cases.
Sonepat registered 47 rape cases, Kurukshetra
(12), Panchkula (5) and Narnaul (4).
According to the RTI information, a total of
122 dowry death cases were registered in the state from January to July.
Maximum cases of dowry deaths (15) have been reported from Gurgaon.
At least 13 such cases were reported in
Faridabad followed by Palwal and Panipat at 11 each.
As many as 10 dowry death cases were
registered in Karnal.
Capt Anchal
said a total of 627 cases were registered in the state under the Prevention of
Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Maximum cases were reported from Faridabad (86),
followed by Karnal (63) and Yamunagar (53). Comparatively, eight more cases
were registered in 2016 under the POCSO Act every month than last year.
A total of 983 cases were registered under the
Act in 2015.
