Deccan Herald: Bengaluru: Friday,
October 14, 2016.
The Bengaluru
Development Authority (BDA) has stated that there are 127 unauthorised layouts
across the city.
In reply to
an application that was filed by social activist Sai Datta under the Right to
Information (RTI) Act, the BDA provided a list of layouts of which many were
approved later. Still, there 127 layouts which have not yet been approved and
continue to remain unauthorised. A majority of the layouts were 'approved'
later by the gram panchayaths.
The
unauthorised layouts include BEML Layout in Mailasandra village under Kengeri,
LIC Employees’ House Building Co-operative Society (HBCS) layout at Pattanagere
in Kengeri hobli and Rajarajeshwari HBCS layout at Nagadevanahalli village in
Kengeri hobli.
There are
layouts, which have gone 'missing' such as the SLV Layout in Mallasandra
village in Uttarahalli, Sapthagiri Enterprises in Gubbalala and Doddakallasandra
in Uttarahalli and Satya Sai Developers at Kengeri. On the 'missing' layouts,
the BDA said, “it is not possible to identify the layouts on the spot due to
non-availability of survey numbers and name of the layouts.”
Even though a
good number of layouts have been approved by the gram panchayaths, the BDA has
maintained that they are unauthorised. Datta said that all the government
agencies, especially the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and the BDA, turned
a blind eye when these layouts were coming up and allowed their mushrooming.
“What if a
demolition drive is carried out on the lines of the ongoing one on removing
encroachments of the stormwater drains? Where will these innocent property
buyers go? Officials who are responsible for the lapse should be tried and
punished,” said Datta.
