The Karnataka
Information Commission (KIC) has levied penalty from a former special land
acquisition officer of Muda for failin g to provide information sought under
the Right to Information (RTI) Act within the stipulated period. Penalty amount
will be recovered from his salary.
A resident of
Chamaraja Mohalla, R Guru, had submitted an RTI application to N S Chidananda,
who was also the public information officer, on October 20, 2014, seeking
details regarding a land on survey number 59/2 at Hinkal village in Kasaba
Hobli. However, Guru did not receive information with 30 days and he approached
KIC. The commission chaired by L Krishnamurthy directed Chidananda to submit an
explanation within 30 days, and asked him to appear before it during the next
hearing, scheduled on January 8, 2016.
When there
was still no proper response from Chidananda, the commission imposed a fine of
Rs 15,000 on him. It directed Muda commissioner Mahesh to deduct Rs 5,000 from
the officer's salary for July, August and September and ordered him to provide
information to the applicant. Mahesh had told the re porters that as Chidananda
had been transferred, the issue of KIC notice will be brought to the notice of
Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms for future course of action.
