The
project evaluates the works of each corporator across 190 wards which have been
analysed by using the Right To Information (RTI) Act.
The Marathi
Abhyas Kendra has demanded increased usage of Marathi in the daily proceedings
of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
“The
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai is ruled by the Shiv Sena, which
flaunts its Marathi identity. Despite this, the functioning of the BMC is still
not in Marathi in most areas,” said Dipak Pawar, president of Marathi Abhyas
Kendra.
The
organisation has been working towards promoting and protecting Marathi.
Pawar said
the SAP software, which is extensively used in the corporation, does not
operate in Marathi. He also claimed that work orders or purchase orders are not
given out in Marathi.
He added that
there was a need integrate language movements with movements of development to
ensure the ‘Marathisation’ of the state.
The demands
were made at the launch of ‘My ward-My Corporator’, a pilot project report by
Marathi Abhyas Kendra.
The project
evaluates the works of each corporator across 190 wards which have been
analysed by using the Right To Information (RTI) Act.
The MY Ward
My Corporate project was planned keeping in mind the upcoming civic body
election in the city.
With this
project, the Marathi Abhyas Kendra plans to appeal to people to get involved in
the process of evaluating corporators.
