A final year
student of University of Delhi affiliated Shaheed Bhagat Singh College,
Himadrish Suwan was honoured with the prestigious National RTI Promotion
Award-2016 on 28th September 2016 which is also celebrated as the International
Right to Information Day.
Suwan was
honoured at an event organized by Right to Information (RTI) Institute of India
at the Gandhi Peace Foundation. The award was conferred upon him by the
Ambassador of Libya Dr. Ali AS Al-Isawi and the Ambassador of the Republic of
Slovenia, Jozef Drofenik.
Himadrish is
an RTI Activist and has filed over 100 RTI’s till date. His first RTI, filed at
the age of 15, questioning safety measures in Indian Railways brought a
welcoming change in the coaches of Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express. Being the
proud recipient of both International and National accolades like the ‘Young
Achiever’s Award 2014’, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award 2016, Clean Activism Award
,India Entrepreneurship Excellence Award and more, he has never looked back.
“We got
Independence in 1947 but the real independence came after the RTI Act 2005. RTI
Act is indeed a milestone towards the goal of complete independence. I have
been working towards the promotion of RTI from last few years and hence getting
an honorary award now is a matter of pride and motivation,” said Himadrish of
his achievement.
Suwan is the
former Media President of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and a young
Columnist, Activist and Citizen Journalist (C.J) for various reputed dailies and
magazines & one of the youngest Indian representing the Indian youth at the
Global Opportunity Panel-2015. He is listed among India's most influential
youth.
