Chandigarh Tribune: Ludhiana: Thursday,
September 22, 2016.
Municipal
Corporation Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has asked all officials concerned to
clear pending cases under the Right to Information Act by October 7.
Taking a
serious note of the pendency of cases under RTI, the information of which needs
to be provided within 45 days, Thori asked the officials to come with the
records for another review meeting (October 7).
The records
with MC show that from January 1 till September 15, 2016, MC received total
1,513 applications for providing information under the RTI Act. Of these 1,513
cases, 510 applicants went for first appeal, while the rest applicants were
satisfied at the initial stage itself. However, of 510 appeals that had come to
the first appellant authority, 145 cases were still in the process of providing
information and the rest 145 applicants made an appeal with the Punjab State
Information Commission. The remaining number i.e. 210 got satisfied after the
first appeal.
The officials
also told that of 145 cases that had gone for the second appeal, 70 were
disposed of while 75 cases were still going on.
Thori said:
“As many as 66 per cent applicants got satisfied with the information at the
first stage and only 10 per cent made an appeal to the Punjab State Information
Commission.”
The
Commissioner, who conducted a meeting with the officials today, strictly
directed the latter not to keep any pendency and clear all RTI cases within the
given time period. He asked them to pursue cases properly at the State
Information Commission level so that it should get disposed of as early as
possible. “There is not much pendency in the RTI cases, but even then,
officials have been told to take up cases properly so that pendency should be
cleared well in time. I will review the cases again on October 7. By then, the
officials will clear all pendency,” he said.
