Preliminary measures taken to implement RTI - Min. Gayantha

A programme to enlighten provincial journalists on the Right To Information Act is now being held at the Sea Lion Hotel in Galle. Minister of Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilaka who joined the occasion said measures have already been taken to implement it. Opportunity has now been given for journalists and the media institutions to report any matter without fear. The Right to Information Act will bring numerous benefits to the public. An Information Officer will be appointed to every public institute. A group of 800 persons are now being trained for this purpose.
Speaking further the minister said programes will be held to train the journalists. An international level Media Academy is to be established under the foreign aid. Furthermore number of programmes will be implemented for the welfare of journalists.
Deputy Minister Karunarathne Paranvithana and secretary to the Ministry Nimal Bopage were also present on the occasion.
