"Rewards can be given to personnel from the ranks of a constable to an inspector by senior officers of the ranks assistant commissioner of police, deputy commissioner of police and the commissioner," Patil said, adding that the personnel are awarded for commendable work during investigation cases.
"During the Kumbh Mela last year, a policeman was rewarded for saving life of a person who was trying to commit suicide. Such policemen who show act of courage also become eligible for the reward," he added.
The amount sanctioned for rewards may vary as per the rank of the officer. "The amount of rewards can range from Rs 100 up to Rs 2,000 depending on the officer's rank. The rewards are sanctioned through funds allocated for the purpose," Patil added.
