The state
government has decided to keep the state vigilance wing outside the purview of
Right to Information Act.
The
information and public relations department issued a notification in this
regard on August 11. "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section
(4) of the Section 24 of the RTI Act, the state government do hear by specify
that nothing contained in the said Act shall apply to the general
administration (vigilance) department and its organisation," the
notification said.
RTI
campaigners are fumed with the notification. "It's blatant subversion of
the RTI Act, which stands for transparency. It's grossly unfortunate and
against the spirit of the 2005 Act," said Pradip Pradhan, an RTI
campaigner. Pradhan said the government has an ulterior motive because it uses
vigilance for its political interest.
