Two RTI
activists have filed a private complaint before a special Lokayukta court,
seeking the investigation in the alleged offer made to Chief Justice Subh ro
Kamal Mukherjee be handled by either the Lokayukta or the An ti-Corruption
Bureau (ACB). The court has posted the com plaint to August 2.
Complainants
S Bhaskaran and Jayakumar Hirematha have named Umrah Builders (the review
petitioner in the cas e) and the unknown person who made the offer as the
accused. They have sought a probe against them under Section 12 of the
Prevention of Corruption Act and also Section 116 of IPC for abetting an
offense.
They claimed
jurisdictional police refused to register the complaint lodged by them on July
7. The accused have tried to tarnish the image and dignity of the judiciary,
they said.
It may be
recalled that on July 5, Mukherjee had revealed in court that a person speaking
Bengali had approached him with an offer to expedite a case listed at serial
number 34. He had also showed the visiting card given by that person and
recused from the case.
The case
pertains to the review petition filed by Umrah Developers against the revenue
departme nt in connection with 39 guntas of land at Chellanghatta village. The
deve lopers s uccessfully bid for the land at the government aucti on in 2008.
