Expressing
concern over the misuse of Right to Information Act, Governor Ram Naik said
that there was need to curb growing tendency of people who have made a business
out of the legislation.
Addressing a
function after the inauguration of a new building of UP Information Commission
in Lucknow on Monday, Naik said, "The RTI Act has helped in curbing
corruption and increased transparency and accountability of public servants and
governance.
But certain
groups are misusing the law and there was a need for devising ways to curb this
trend to ensure that the masses get the maximum benefit of this legislation.’’
In his
address, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the RTI Act has enhanced
transparency and accountability and has immensely helped good governance. He said that Act has also made the government
more responsible.
"When
this law was passed by Lok Sabha, I was
an MP and I am well versed with
provisions and significance of RTI Act. The SP government in UP will help to
strengthen the institution of State Information Commission in all possible
manner to ensure that the masses get the benefit of this law,’’ said the CM.
