Arunachal
Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa has urged the Arunachal Pradesh Information
Commission (APIC) to be cautious against potential misuse of RTI provisions by
unscrupulous people for their “illegal” gains.
The Governor
was interacting with State Information Commissioners Matheim Linggi, Nanom
Jamoh and Abraham K Techi, who called on him at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday to
apprise him of the “challenges” confronting the Commission.
The Governor
while praising the APIC on winning the ‘Best Information Commission’ award,
advised the Commissioners to live up to its reputation. He also advised them to
conduct awareness campaigns on Right to Information Act in district, Circle and
Block levels so that the common people can fully assert their rights.
On suggestion
from the Commissioners, the Governor emphasised that every government
department must have its own website, which should be regularly updated and
have correct information. It will reduce time, energy and money incurred by the
Public Information Officers in appearing before the Commission, which in turn
will reduce the financial implication on the State exchequer.
He also
suggested measures to strengthen the State Information Commission, appointment
of Chief Information Commissioner, filling up of all vacant posts, etc., within
a timeframe.
